A. Wrenfeld was a patient (Case No. 9) at the Shalebridge Cradle, brought in by the (old) City Watch on suspicion of arson that resulted in several fatalities. Described by the staff as "a slight and unintelligent creature", Wrenfeld was admitted for observation and treatment. Placed under Doctor Pettihue's care, she was allowed (as reward for good behavior) to light the fireplace in the Lounge.[1][2] She was allowed to keep her tinderbox, sans fuel.[3]

Subsequent treatments showed little hope of reintroducing Wrenfeld into normal society. As punishment for bad behavior, she was kept secluded in the dark for prolonged periods.[1]

It is known? that after Lauryl's murder, E. Poshtoll was able to cause unrest with the patients and manipulate staff.[4] The exact nature of the fire that consumed the Shalebride Cradle was never ascertained, but it can be suspected that Wrenfeld started the fire - either by herself, or under Poshtoll's manipulation.
