Thief II: The Metal Age[]

They were used by Karras to record his speeches and play them at a party at Angelwatch. A total of six have been used during the party (and one secret one for a special guest).[1]

Speculations[]

It is not clear why Karras decided to use these machines but he seems to knew that Garrett would attend his party,[2] and probably did not want to give him a chance to kill him; so he might have decided to stay away from the party and use the voice machines as a substitute for himself to speak to his guests. It is possible that he also might just be busy with other things or did not wish to speak to the nobility that spurned him.[3]

Some of the voice machines survived and were still used by the nobility after the fall of the Mechanists, namely Captain Robert Moira and the curator of the Wieldstrom Museum.[4]

One machine can also be found in the Shalebridge Cradle which is believed to be a writing continuity error.[5][6]
