This tomb houses the remains of the emperor Va-Taraq of Karath-din. It consists of a large underground complex in the south-east corner of the burial grounds and stretches far to the south. It is very soundly consructed and has suffered only minor damage since The Extinction of the Precursors.
Layout[]
The tomb has only one entrance; a narrow series of stairways leading from the surface. At the lower end is a trap-door of orange stone, probably meant to slide down and imprison would-be grave robbers, which has been stopped with a thick wooden beam. A deep chasm, now filled with lava, separates this from the anteroom which leads to a false burial chamber.
The true burial chamber is connected to the anteroom via a second passage extending from the corner. It is protected by a heavy hinged device on the ceiling which swings down to impale anyone who tries to enter. To the east is a room containing the "key" to the colosseum bridge, and to the west is a small bed chamber.
The Dark Project vs. Thief Gold[]
In TDP, the Keepers had chosen a small flooded cavern which extends beyond the broken wall behind Va-Taraq's sarcophagus as a hiding place for the Talisman of Water. Its removal summons an army of vengeful craymen who storm through the city's southern regions.
In TG, there is no flooded cavern and the tomb is inhabited by Hand mages. The pitfall has been extended so that it is too large to jump across and the ceiling spikes react more quickly. As a final deterrent , a trap within the sarcophagus itself releases toxic gas to choke anyone standing too close.
