There are two appearances of rowboats in the Thief games, one in the mission Precious Cargo (The Metal Age) and once in The House of the Widow Moira (Deadly Shadows). Neither of the boats can be moved in game.

In Precious Cargo, a rowboat can be found at the beginning of the mission. It is presumed that Garrett arrived on the island by it. This boat has a mysterious grey patch on the bow and the oars.
An other rowboat can be found at the Docks district and at the entrance to the widow's mansion. Missing or falling off the boat is a hazard as Garrett has lost the ability to swim in the third game.

- Somehow, Garrett was able no navigate down a small waterfall to get to Markham's Island. It is not known how he would have gotten back up.
- In the Docks district, watchmen can drown in the gap between the rowboat and the pier. If Garrett is in the boat, an angry guard standing at the edge of the water will gradually slide into the space, due to shifting because of the fist shaking and foot stomping animation.
