Editor map of The City showing the rivers and canals.
There are at least two known rivers that flow trough The City but one is greater than the other.
Big River[]
The River, the main water and greatest river in the City. It flows north-south with Auldale on one side to the east, and Stonemarket and Old Quarter on the other to the west. A very large river and wide from bank to bank.[1]
Other Rivers[]
A river on the keeper map.
The modern river.
The canal or river that flows mostly underground through areas of Old Quarter, High Towne and New Market. Garrett refers to it simply as "the river".[2] Highly modified through human intervention the riverbanks are held together with reinforced stonework. It has a high speed flow in the New Market area, it is a narrow river, several feet deep, but still treacherous. It holds the secret entrance to the Lost City.[3]
Other Possible Rivers or Canals:
- There is a canal on the east side of the Truart Estate but since the location of it is unknown it's not known if there is a relation to the second river or canal.[4]
- There is also a canal in Auldale that could be controlled by a pump house.
- There is also a river or canal that runs trough the Sealed Section of Old Quarter. It could be related to the canal in Auldale because of it's proximity to Auldale Street.[5]
- There is an area close to Shalebridge that contains a lot of rivers or canals.
- A stream flows trough the Pagan Sanctuary in South Quarter.[6]
- Lastly, there is also an underground river underneath the Hammer Temple in Downtowne. It is relatively close to the second river or canal but any connection to it is unknown.
Note[]
- Ramirez comments that the rivers in the City are treacherous at certain times of the year.[7]
- Garrett discovered the hidden passage at the bottom of a bend of a river near his Home Turf in T1 in South Quarter near New Market that lead to the Lost City.
Trivia[]
- In the Thief Gold mission The Sword there is a miniature city that has a small canal running trough it.
- According to a conversation between two Servants one of the rivers was so low that it was nearly possible to walk across it to Shalebridge during the time of The Dark Project although the correctness of this statement is uncertain.[8]
