C. Pins was a patient (Case No. 7) at the Shalebridge Cradle. She was admitted for observation and treatment by her family and initially placed under the care of Doctor Hanscomb, although he later recommended her to be placed under the care of Doctor Sandbridge due to her "sensitive age".[1]
Pins proved completely unresponsive to questions or the presence of others, but had "grotesquely" decorated her cell, apparently in a way that resembled a murder scene she was involved in before her admission. Sandbridge believed her to be an incurable case, and informed her parents as such, who he felt were relieved by his diagnosis.[1] Pins' favorite object was an empty wooden birdhouse, which she was permitted to carry with her to the balcony, under supervision, twice a month.[2][3]
By the time of Garrett's visit to the Cradle during the events of Thief: Deadly Shadows, the "grotesque" decor of Pins' cell consisted of several dead birds nailed to one of the walls and a collection of seemingly human skulls, neatly arranged in a row on the table. A puppet, possibly based on Pins herself, could be found locked inside the cell, facing the bird corpses in ominous silence.
Trivia[]
C. Pins' patient history refers to her birdhouse as a "birdhouse"; it is unclear what the quotation marks are meant to entail, but their use possibly hints at some alternate use of the item, likely one much more sinister than merely housing birds.
