The Nobility is the upper class in The City and usually has higher privileges and capabilities, both financial and political, than the main body of the population and are most commonly referred to as Lords and Ladies. The nobility tend to be found in upper class areas and often have nice manor houses or even large estates occupied by Servants and guards.
Hierarchy[]
The Baron seems to be the top of the feudal system in the City,[1] although a queen is mentioned, with several tiers of nobility below him.[2] The lesser noblemen have limited privileges and some even pay a so-called Taxgelt – a tax paid by nobility to their superiors on higher tiers.[3][4] An inner circle is also mentioned but it is not known if this represent a higher tier of nobility or merely a social rank among them.[5]
As a NPC type[]
Velvet has gotten sooo expensive...
Nobleman idle quote
The Dark Project/Thief Gold[]
The nobleman or noblewoman is a different type of NPC from the Opera Guests. A rather famous one is Ramirez in the mission Assassins who is the only nobleman that can attack.
The Metal Age[]
These noblemen or noblewomen have a huge variety of ages and dresses acting more as bystanders and follow the same behaviour as the regular Servant and flee on first sight of danger. The nobleman or woman usually caries valuable stuff on his or hers belt.
While Noblemen are a rare sight on the streets, they can often be found inside of manors or wealthy locations such as the First City Bank and Trust and Angelwatch.
Deadly Shadows[]
Nobles are seen more on the streets, mixing with people of lower class and often wearing valuables such as jewels but can still be found in large mansions and castles.
Note[]
- The nobility, because of their wealth, are the prime targets for thieves.
- A number of these appear to operate in charge of some of the less seemly fields such as working as a City Warden, or working for one, in charge of gambling pits and dens as a way to keep or gain higher social status.
- Garrett comments that Auldale is wall to wall nobility in Thief: Deadly Shadows. It's certainly one of the more richer districts of The City.
