The Abysmal Gale becomes accessible as soon as access is gained to the Docks District.

Oddly enough, this 'mission' does not have a Briefing or Debriefing, giving the player the freedom to come and go as they please. They are not required to collect anything, nor do they have to search the ship at all if they choose not to.

Walkthrough[]

Proceed cautiously as ever through the halls of the ship, avoiding the middle of the hallways as the decks of some hallways may be made of metal. Since gathering loot is not requisite here, you may feel free to ignore any shineys you see as you proceed downwards. Keep your dagger out at all times as well as flashbombs or holy water. If you're careful, a well placed backstab will render a zombie 'dormant' and unable to attack you, or even notice you, until you draw near to them again.

The entire ship is navigable, and all loot and items collectible, without the need to fight, or otherwise try to incapacitate any zombies. If playing through again as suggested above it will save you some time if you choose to 'surgically' remove a zombie or two. For instance, picking and looting the chest in the Captain's Cabin is ever so slightly easier if the Captain receives a liberal sprinkling of Holy Water to put him out of his (and your) misery!

If the player access the ship again at a later point, the entirety of its Loot will be reset so it is possible to repeat the mission, claim more Vials of Holy Water (maximum that can be carried is five), kill more zombies to increase the Faction Status with the Hammerites (if desired), and loot it all again. The only difference is that finding the Ship's Manifest is not longer an Objective so, if if it is picked up and read, the Objective Complete chime will not occur and the corresponding mission will likewise not become available again.

When the docks is visited on Day 6 (or later), after the Killing Time mission, the Abysmal Gale will have left and will therefore no longer be available.

Trivia[]

  • Map Inconsistency: The Abysmal Gale model in The Docks is about 50% the size of the playable map and that map has the stern of the ship incorrectly pointing north. Addendum...in the docks the wheel of the ship (and the stern) can be seen to the north. When inside the ship the captain's cabin - which would normally be at the stern - is to the south.
  • There is a second exit south of where the Ship's Manifest can be found which will take Garrett back to the docks. He will find himself near the northern entrance to the dock area with the ship his left and cannot re-enter from there. To enter again he will need to go south to the ladder amidships and will start in the upper hold again.
