S. Izen was a patient (Case No. 3) at the Shalebridge Cradle, delivered there for observation and treatment by the (old) City Watch under suspicion of murder. Dr. Pettihue observed that Izen had frequent bouts of narcolepsy, during which he would sleepwalk, yet have no recollection of events when woken. After several sessions of water therapy, which included "submergings", Pettihue could not determine if the treatment was working, or if Izen was feigning cooperation to avoid further treatment.[1]
Izen was allowed to keep an unlit candle.[2] He continued to be caught sleepwalking, wandering in or around the Morgue.[3] Suspecting that Izen was developing an affinity for the Morgue, Pettihue considered withholding access there as punishment.[1]
