“ | If you're open tomorrow, I'm getting two bottles! You can't cheat me! I know you can hear me! | ” |
— Hauknor |
R. Hauknor is a corrupt officer of the City Watch. He is usually seen in the Old Quarter Tavern or in the guardhouse south Carmen's Place.
In the guardhouse, Garrett can find Hauknor's journal. Reading it, he will understand that Hauknor is extorting Vintage Wine from the tavern. On Wednesday, Hauknor decided to drink every third bottle, which accounts for his almost constant intoxication.[1]
He has unusually keen hearing and is easily identified because he does not wear spaulders.
Side Quest[]
The side quest is simply to steal the bottle and sell it.
There are several ways in which the story can be influenced:
- If Hauknor dies, the extortion will of course stop.
- If the barmaid is killed, the tavern will be closed and Hauknor, now drunk, will rave outside.[2]
- If Hauknor is knocked out, he seems to go straight. A new entry was supposed to be made in his journal, but that text is missing. (see Talk:Old Quarter: In-game text)
Trivia[]
- The 'protection' racket he has set up is not unique to him in the City Watch, hinting at wider corruption. He comments in his journal that he doesn't need to add it to the city watch pool because they don't know about it.
- When drunk, Hauknor can be heard to comment that if he doesn't collect he'll get demoted. It's possible he is using some of the money he is making to bribe his superiors.[3]
