Not much is known about the Golden Bones or their origin but they are associated with an elaborately decorated Hammerite tomb in the southeast corner of the Halls of Echoing Repose. It is likely that these bones are only plated or gilded with gold leaf as this would explain why they are able to float on water and why Garrett does not keep them as loot.
Locations[]
The golden bones can be found scattered around the Bonehoard in the following locations:
- an arm in a Zombie-filled chamber in the Northeast (arm one);
- an arm floating (somehow) in the flooded base of a booby-trapped room (arm two);
- a leg on the floor just East of the central stairwell (leg one);
- a leg and a skull in the lower section of the Hammerite tomb (leg two and skull).
It is also not known why the bones are scattered in the first place. A possible explanation could be that they had been stolen from their tomb by grave robbers that eventually lost them - or died - during their journey trough the Bonehoard.
Reward[]
When the full set is collected and placed in the golden coffin in the lower level of the Hammerite tomb in the southeast corner of the Halls of Echoing Repose (next to the Mystic's Soul entrance) a reward will appear to Garrett consisting of eight Water Arrows, four Fire Arrows, and one vial of Holy Water which can prove useful against the horde of Zombies that roam the Bonehoard. Care must be taken as the tomb is protected by purple energy bolt traps. In the upper level of the tomb there is a shining hammer-shaped hole in the ceiling which illuminates the floor below it. Standing on one of these illuminated places will trigger the energy traps.
Note[]
- In the Thief II: The Metal Age mission "Blackmail", a Golden Skull worth 100 gold can be found in the Haunt infested tomb below the Hammerite chapel, although it does not appear to have any connection.
