Explosive (Sunburst) Device

An Explosive Device.

The Explosive Device, or Sunburst Device, is an invention of an unknown Hammer engineer/alchemist, or an intrepid Astronomer, and is usually an extreme rare piece of equipment — only appearing three times inside the entire three games — although it can be manufactured in Soulforge Cathedral (see Blueprints).

Cost: N/A (cannot be purchased at any shop)

• 24+ points of damage directly above the explosion
• Descending to 10 points of damage at 19.39 DromEd Units away from the explosion and less further away

Appearances

This item only appears at three locations:

• in the armory of the Old Hammer Cathedral in the mission Return to the Cathedral;
• in the Astronomer's Workshop in the mission Life of the Party, and;
• in Soulforge Cathedral in the mission Sabotage at Soulforge.

Usage

• Breaking open locked doors or gates
• Dealing large amounts of damage to non-fire based entities
• Detonating Explosive Barrels
• Distracting characters

Tactical Information

The main purpose of the device is to blow open locked doors (especially if there is no other way of opening it). Simply place the device as close as possible to the door and detonate it by shooting a Fire Arrow at it. A huge explosion will follow, powerful enough to break any steel door, gate or glass in the area and also will hurt or kill any entity unfortunate enough to get caught up in the explosion. Take note that the blast area is much larger than the blast area of a Fire Arrow or Mine so make sure there is enough distance or adequate cover to not get caught in the explosion.

Also note that only fire based attacks can detonate the device and any Broadhead Arrow shot, or even a direct Sword hit cannot detonate the charge.

Blueprints

BLUEPRINTS: Explosive Charge Obtain a Iron Chassis, a Bantam Node, and a canister of Quicklime Mixture. Process the Iron Chassis and the Quicklime Mixture with the Amalgamating Machine in Factory Bay B. A Mine Bulb will be manufactured. Merge the Mine Bulb and the Bantam Node with the Sealing Machine in Factory Bay D.

Notes

• Garrett used an Explosive Device in the mission "Return to the Cathedral" to break open the cloister gate.
• The Explosive Device is sometimes a feature or requirement for completing certain objectives in Fan Missions (FMs). When one is encountered it is advised to save one Fire Arrow for detonating the device as not get stuck in an unfinishable mission.
